On February 21, 1987, Ellen Philpotts-Page was born in Nova Scotia, Canada. Although Ellen’s only 29 years old, she has contributed more to her art through her memorable onscreen performances onscreen and to the greater good by championing human and animal rights than most could in a lifetime. Starring: Patrick Wilson, Sandra Oh, Odessa Rae

Summary: A fourteen year old girl, Harley Stark (Page), discovers a thirty year old man, Jeff Kohlver (Wilson), in an online chat group. After talking with each other for nearly three weeks, they agree to meet at a local coffee shop. Despite the age gap, Harley and Jeff get along with each other. However, Harley begins to flirt with Jeff and eventually invites herself to his house. Once Harley gets inside the house, her deadly game of cat and mouse begins.

Fun Fact: Despite the sensitive and disturbing nature of the film, Ellen said the hardest scene to shoot was the coffee shop scene, where she ate tiramisu take after take after take.

Recognition: The film received positive reviews and won multiple awards from film festivals, including an Austin Film Critics Association Best Actress Award, a Phoenix Film Critics Society Award, and a Women Film Critics Circle Award.




Director: Woody Allen

Starring: Woody Allen, Penelope Cruz, Jesse Eisenberg, Roberto Benigni, Alec Baldwin, Judy Davis

Summary: In the passionate city of Rome, the lives of tourists and residents unfold into stories of comedy, romance and exploration. An “Average Joe” becomes famous overnight, an architect recollects his study abroad experience, an aging opera director discovers an unexpectedly talented singer, and a young couple has their honeymoon flipped upside.

Fun Fact: The film comes with serious star power. Pretty much everyone in the cast either has won an Academy Award (Allen, Cruz and Benigni) or been nominated for one (Page, Baldwin, Davis and Eisenberg).

Recognition: The film received mixed reviews, but became one of Sony Picture Classics’ highest grossing films. TO ROME WITH LOVE received nominations from several film festival awards, and won an Italian Keneo Award for Best Supporting Actress. The film is also Woody Allen’s fourth highest grossing film.


JUNO (2007)


Director: Jason Reitman

Starring: Michael Cera, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman

Summary: After the young, sharp-witted high school student Juno (Page) discovers she’s pregnant, she decides to have the baby but give it up for adoption. As the year unfolds, Juno encounters the realities of being a pregnant teen.

Best Ellen Page Quote Juno MacGuff – [on the phone] “Hey, yeah, uh, I’m just calling to procure a hasty abortion. What? – Can you just hold on for a second, I’m on my hamburger phone.”

Fun Fact: Not only did Ellen come up with Juno’s signature hairstyle, but she also did her own hair every day.

Recognition: Ellen and JUNO were the breakout hits of 2007. She was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar and the film won Best Original Screenplay and received two other nominations for Best Picture and Best Director. JUNO was also the highest grossing film out of all five Best Picture Oscar nominees that year.




Director: Christopher Nolan

Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard

Summary: Dominic Cobb (DiCaprio), a skilled secret extraction thief, assembles a team to help him enter the mind of an energy industry mogul and plant an idea in his dreams. Unlike previous heists, Cobb must face his own personal issues, risking losing himself and his team in a perpetual dream.

Fun Fact: Castmates Page and Cotillard were pitted against each other off the set, with both nominated for Best Actress awards at 2008’s Oscars and BAFTAs – Cotillard won both.

Recognition: INCEPTION won four Academy Awards: Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Editing, Best Cinematography and Best Sound Mixing. The film was nominated for eight Oscars total, including Best Picture. To this day, INCEPTION is one of the highest grossing films of all time.




Director: Bryan Singer

Starring: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Hoult

Summary: In the year 2023, humanity faces extinction after a mutant killing mechanical army starts to hunt humans as well. In a desperate attempt to save mankind, the surviving X-Men members send Wolverine into the past to change the course of history.

Fun Fact: X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST ties THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (2012) for the most Academy Award-nominated actors in a single comic book movie. This film features eight nominees: Ellen Page, Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin, and Michael Lerner.

Recognition: X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST received nominations for several awards, including an Oscar, BAFTA, Screen Actors Guild, Annie Award, Kids’ Choice Award, and MTV Movie Award.


WHIP IT (2009)


Director: Drew Barrymore

Starring: Drew Barrymore, Kristen Wiig, Jimmy Fallon

Summary: In a small Texas town, an indie-rock loving misfit Bliss Cavendar (Page) deals with constant pressure from mother to compete in beauty pageants. While shopping for new shoes, Bliss finds a pamphlet advertising for an all-girls roller derby and decides to try out. Once Bliss joins the team, she quickly discovers roller derby is her true calling. Bliss must face the challenges of her new-found hobby, and how it will impact the lives of her family, friends and herself.

Fun Fact: Ellen became so invested into WHIP IT, she decided to drop the lead role of the horror film DRAG ME TO HELL (2009).
